ganglion

ganglion defined in 1951 year

ganglion - ganglion;
ganglion - Small solid mass of nervous tissue containing numerous cell-bodies. The central nervous system of many invertebrates consists largely of such ganglia, connected by nerve cords, very variously arranged but usually well-developed in the head (cerebral ganglia). In vertebrates the central nervous system has a different structure, but ganglia occur in the peripheral nervous system (See also: Nerve-Root) and autonomic nervous system. Some of the 'nuclei' of the brain are called ganglia.
