graft - (1) To graft is to induce union between tissues normally separate. (2) A graft is a relatively small part of a plant or animal which is grafted on to a relatively large part. The graft may be moved (transplanted) from its normal position to another place on the same organism (autoplastic grafting, autografting); or it may be moved to a different individual of the same species (homoplastw grafting, homografting) or of a different species (heteroplastic grafting, heterografting). In plants, the part grafted on is called the scion, that to which it is united the stock. In animals these individuals are respectively called donor, and host or recipient.
