stoma - stoma (plural stomata);stoma - (1) Pore in the epidermis of plants, present in large numbers, particularly in leaves, through which gaseous exchange takes place. Each stoma is surrounded by two specialized, crescent-shaped epidermal cells known as guard-cells, whose movements, due to changes in turgidity, govern opening and closing of pore.
