addington - Addington;addington - Village in Surrey, now included in the county borough of Croydon. Here is Addington palace, built in 1772, a residence of the archbishops of Canterbury from 1808 until 1902. Then remodelled by Norman Shaw, R.A., it later became a country club with a golf course adjoining. Some of the 1,200 acres of the estate were developed for housing. Another Addington is in Kent, 7 m. from Maidstone; in the park are Celtic remains.
