adrianople, capture of - Adrianople, capture of;adrianople, capture of - Serbo - Bulgarian success over Turkey, March, 1913. Advancing on Adrianople early in the first Balkan war, the Bulgarians encircled the Turkish garrison there, but were unable to progress farther before the armistice of Dec., 1912. When hostilities reopened in Feb., 1913, Bulgars and Serbs, 100,000 strong, launched an attack on March 24, and the fortress fell on March 26, 39,000 Turkish officers and men and 600 guns being captured.
